Today’s resolution: Rusty treasure

“So they loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly … Hills, that is. Swimming pools. Movie stars.” — Beverly Hillbillies theme song

The Clampetts might have thought this Studebaker a bit dee-luxe, being as they were satisfied with their pre-Depression era Buick flatbed held together with baling wire and rope.

When walking the dog, my sister and I happened up on this rustbucket squatting on a dusty patch of land in Castaic, Calif., that’s used as a pumpkin patch every Halloween.

Yep, it's a Stude (2011/RO)

The truck appears to be a Studebaker M Series, a model made between 1941-’48 that featured this unique front end.

Poor old thing must have set a spell. It could use a little sprucing up, some spit and polish, a little baling wire.

Tires. A few coats of paint. Maybe an engine.

And, of course, a rocking chair for the bed.

A truck the Clampetts could love. (2011/RO)

Unique front-end design (2011/RO)

Maybe some Fix-a-Flat? (2011/RO)
